Day 91

its still too hot. I'm getting bitten every day. My body is not used to bites. They come up really bad. I didn't have the morning shift today. I had a longer shift in the evening. Keep watch on the kitchen from 6-9pm and then clean the kitchen from 9-10pm. Prefer the morning shift. Booked a surf lesson for tomorrow morning. Looking forward to it. Got a great set up here. Surfing in the morning. Chilling at the beach. Free Internet. 1 or 2 hour work in the evening. They have a huge movie library and everyone watches film and has beer. Its paradise. Also I get free surf board hire as i work here, so after my lesson i can practise on my own. Might stay for 2-3 weeks. No rush to move on.

The people at the hostel are really cool as well. T-bone, who carries a huge bag of weed wherever he goes and smokes a huge joint every night. Weyland who give everyone free wifi as the hostel doesnt provide wifi. My boss is pretty cool aswell. Although he has a really aggressive side. Abit like Dr Jekyl and Mister Hyde. Hopefully i wont get on his bad side anytime soon...

Day 90

Sun was out finally. Seems like it was eager to make up for lost time because it was ridiculously hot. Finished all my jobs before 11:30 so i had the rest of the day. Went for a walk around town. Still haven't been down to the beach. The town is small. I had to buy new lounge pants. They only have a hippie store and i bought a pair of 3/4 length shorts from there. I look like a Sherpa. Still really comfy. Started watching Game of Thrones on my laptop. Downloaded the first few episodes. Its actually amazing. Already addicted. Gonna download the rest for when it starts raining again...

Day 89

Started work. Have to sweep all the rooms. There is only 9. Then replace the bins. Then clean the kitchen. Not hard work. Just monotonous. I like it. Its takes no brain power. Still raining. Started drawing again. Read my book. Watched the tennis live finals. Went on for a while. Didn't see it to the end. The hostel cook made a roast dinner which was really good. Only $6 so can't complain really. Had to work in the morning so had an early-ish night...

Day 88

Didnt have to work today. Just sat round all day. Still raining. Watched films in the television room. Watched films on my laptop. Bought some beers and drank outside with some other people in the hostel. Went to bed early. Not much to do when it rains...

Day 87

My trip has been cancelled. The weather is awful. Really annoyed. Headed back tot he hostel and asked about the job vacancy. Guy gave me the job on the spot. I thought that was easy. I have to work 2 hours a day cleaning and stuff, and i get free accommodation, Internet, washing and half price on trips. Not bad. I'm gonna save a shit load of money. Might be here for a while...

Day 86

Spent all day in Agnes Water. Its a small town but its nice. Hostel is great. Very friendly people. Headed into town for a briefing i had to do for my castaway experience. Had to pay towards it and a deposit. Was gonna buy some beer for the trip but i decided to do it tomorrow. Looked around town for a place to eat. Found a small cafe. Bought a huge burger with bacon, egg, cheese, beetroot, pineapple and tons of salad. Well fed i headed back to the hostel and watched some films. Went to bed early for my trip tomorrow...

Day 85

Left for Agnes water in the evening. The road was flooded so we had to unload all the bags from the bottom and move them to the seating areas. We didn't go through in the end as the next crossing was even worse apparently. We turned back and took another route which added another hour to our journey.

The hostel I'm at is good. The people in my room are nice. One of the girls gave me the entire series of How I Met Your Mother. I'm getting into it. I heard it was supposed to be like Friends but its not even in the same league. Still good tho...

Day 84

Rested for the day. Bought a big breakfast and a proper coffee. Got 24 hour Internet and downloaded a shit load of films and music. Was nice to do nothing. Leaving for Agnes beach or 1770 as it is known as. Have a castaway experience booked. Called up to confirm the details. Said they could fit me into a tour on the 27th. Only one problem the guy said. I will be the only guy on the trip. Rest of the people are girls taking part in a photo shoot. I asked him to repeat that. He said they hadn't confirmed yet but it looks like i will be on a deserted island for a day with 14 beautiful models. Damn my luck!...

Day 83

Last day in Fraser. Rained nearly all day. Heavy rain. Packed up and left camp. Headed to a lake for a swim. We were already soaked so it didn't matter. We had lunch and then left for the ferry. On the way to the ferry the second car broke down, twice. Had to be towed. Was beginning to think nothing was gonna go wrong. It would have been boring if it hadn't. Came across a car that had got stuck. Had to get out and help push. Probably have a hilarious mental image of me trying to push a camper van out of the sand but we succeeded in the end.

Made it to the ferry just in time. The ferry had a cat that lived there. Apparently people brought it on and forgot it there. Its lived there ever since. Its like a mascot. Its really fat and over pampered as everyone who comes on the ferry feed and strokes it.

Back to the hostel. Had a shower then went out for food. 2 members of our group then had to leave. Said goodbye. Sat up and talked to 2 others for a few hours. They were talking about there trip to Asia and how it was so much better than Australia. Will definitely have to do Asia at some point. Went to bed. Really needed sleep. Proper bed instead of a sleeping bag. Its the little things...

Day 82

Went to a lake in the morning. The tour guide caught a turtle and let everyone hold it. He said it will try and get away but its claws arnt strong enought to peirce the skin. Everyone held it a took pictures, the turtle was calm. Then i got to hold it. Like most creatures the turtle didn't like me instantly. It tryed desperatley to escape my grasp and dug it claws into my hands causing them to bleed. Had to hold it with a death grip so that it wouldnt fall onto the ground. Still cool creature, just left me with cuts in the palm of my hand.

Went to the sand dunes. Climbed to the top then got to run down. Was very steep but very fun. I was the first down. A few people fell and rolled the rest of the way. Took a swim and played frisbee. Headed to a creek. Largest fresh water stream on the island. The island has some really amazing parts.

In the evening we had pasta and played drinking games all night...

Day 81

Woke up at 5:15am. Wasn't tired so went downstairs for coffee. Flipped thought the TV channels. Found a music channel. Haven't seen a music video in ages. Everyone else on the tour woke up later. We all headed off for the tour. We had another briefing. It was about driving on sand and what to do and what not to do. They also covered Dingoes. Said don't feed them or they will bite you. If you see one don't run away screaming because they will chase you and bite you. If you find yourself being followed by dingoes just turn and stare at them. All pretty obvious. We were about to leave when the tour guide said " Oh, and don't go swimming on the east coast by yourself because some died doing that". Letting us know that last. Apparently he went for a night swim (idiot) then got pulled out by a rip tide onto the EAC East Australian Current. We have all seen Finding Nemo. Anyway he got dragged down the coast and they found his body the next day washed up on the shore. Sounded like he had it coming.

9 of us including the Driver had to cram into one car. That's 3 in the front, 3 in the back and 3 in the rear. Not the most comfortable. I was in the back seat. Never been so happy to not be tall. Guy next to me wasn't much taller yet he had no leg room. Drove to the ferry. Got out and stretched or legs. Drove to a lake. The road was just a dirt track. Bumped and skidded all over the place. The guide was a good off-road driver luckily. Still got shaken about a good amount tho.

The lake was good. Very calm and shallow. Didn't go in. Wasnt in the mood to have to dry off. I soon encountered flies. Everywhere these huge flies. They would land on you and bite you. Horrible things. It was funny because everyone else was getting bitten and swarmed yet they didn't even touch me. Don't know why. One girl in my group was getting bitten every 5 seconds. It made me laugh anyway. A few landed on me but then they just flew off again, as if to say "oops sorry thought you were someone else"

Headed to another lake and had a swim. The we drove to the camp we would be staying in for the next 2 nights. On the way we past a huge shipwreck and got out to take pictures. Very cool. It was all rusted and falling apart. The camp was good. Cleanish. As clean as a camp in the woods can get. Big tent. Sleeping bags. Campfire. We had a BBQ the first night. Well needed after a long day. Had steak, sausages and burgers. Then we drank and roasted marshmallows and chased dingoes away from our camp. Was good fun. Went to sleeping bag and just crashed. Not the most comfortable and covered in sand, but i was tired....

Day 80

Nothing on the agenda except to check into my tour and sit through the briefing. Had to check out of my hostel and move to another hostel. Only up the road. Glad to be out of that shitty hostel id been staying in. New hostel I'm in is nice. Had a kitchen and a movie room. Cant complain. Made a crap cup of coffee using an instant sachet. Read a news paper i had bought. Thought id try to seem interested in global problems. They had a column on Shark attacks in Australia. Seems like they have a few. Not many people are killed in comparison to the amount attacked. Seems like they to wound you then watch your suffer.

Went to my briefing. It was brief. Basically "who can drive?" then "who cant?" "okay these are your groups see you tomorrow. I'm in a group with all English people. I don't mind that. The other group is mainly Germans so i think i got off lucky. Waking up at 5:45 tomorrow should be fun...

Thursday, 19 January 2012

Day 79

headed into town, again. Bought a coffee, again. Was ruined because they put milk in it when i asked for it black. Always annoys me. Bought a burger at hungry jacks. They amount of time i spend in there i should send a postcard. There was a really annoying little girl in there. She kept running around and dancing. Obviously her parents told her she was the best thing since sliced bread. I mentally dipped her in the deep fryer whilst i ate my burger. Walked back to my hostel. Long walk. About 30 minutes. Took the beach. Never seen so many crabs. There must have been 3000 in my field of vision. Over the whole beach maybe 20'000. Looked like the babies where coming out of there underground nest for the first time. Loads of them. Like a carpet.

Read my book. Finished it. Will get a new one tomorrow. Have to move hostel tomorrow. Just up the road. Leaving for the fraser tour in 2 days. Everyone doing the tour gets 2 free nights in the same hostel. Looking forward to the tour. Should be good fun. 2 days i think it is. Maybe its 3. Should really book my next stop before i leave for the tour...

Wednesday, 18 January 2012

Day 78

headed into town. I say town. It wasn't particularly a big town. Just an assembly of shit shops. Treated myself to a big breakfast. Had a real coffee for once. Past 2 months been drinking the instant coffee crap. Sat and read my book. The weather has cleared up. Bit overcast, but its warm and has a nice breeze. My book is really good. Glad i found a good book finally. Has I'm writing this I'm nearly 3/4 of the way through it. They have a load of book swap shops where you buy or trade books for really cheap. Good for backpackers. Don't wanna lug around a library with me.

Walked back on the beach. Really nice area. Boring but nice. Long beach. Practically empty. Got a hair cut at the local barbershop. I'm not a fan of Barbershop small talk. Its easier to just keep the barber talking with follow up questions. I think they like the sound of there own voice so i humour them, even tho i couldn't give a crap about them or there grandchildren. Old fashioned barber obviously didn't understand the concept of a backpacker. He said if you get it this short you can comb it. I want i short so i don't have to do anything but wash it. I don't carry a comb old man.

Went to another coffee shop and read my book. I thought 4 days here would be too long however as long as i have a good book i can stay anywhere without getting bored. Headed back to my run down hostel. Played card with the two German girls in my room. They seem nice enough, for Germans. No i joke they are actually funny. Didn't think Germans had a measurable sense of humour. Who knew?...

Tuesday, 17 January 2012

Day 77

Left for my coach in the morning. Getting used to waking up early. A lie in for me is like 9:00am now. Its strange. Seems I've grown out of my "lazy waste of space phase". My Dad should be pleased to hear that.

Caught my coach to Hervey Bay. Stopped off in Brisbane for an hour. Didn't bother looking around. From what i saw as we drove into it there was nothing special. Been really overcast actually. Raining for the past few days. I have a tour booked for the 21st of Fraser Island. Its supposed to be incredible. 2 days/ 3 nights i think. Its a sand island. Supposed to be really tropical with great beaches. Looking forward to it. Just hope it doesn't rain all week.

Arrived at my hostel. I haven't had a bad hostel yet but already this one is pissing me off. Its doesn't have a kitchen, lobby area, TV room or pool table but none of that stuff bothers me. Its just unorganized, which i hate. I booked my room online but they didn't have my booking. They then asked me to email my booking confirmation to them, twice. Then i could only pay by cash. Had to walk in the rain to a cash point and pay. Then they didn't have my tour booking even tho i booked through them. Luckily its all sorted now. The rooms are cheap. $20 a night so that's a plus. However they said i had a 4 bedroom suit to myself as there wasn't many people in the hostel (probably ran a mile after seeing the place). I wasn't the only person in the room. Had 2 German girls in it. I'm not complaining, there cute (but there also German) just don't say its empty when its not. Never staying in a Nomads again. They are a chain of hostels around Australia and so far its the worst hostel Ive stayed in.

Rained for the rest of the evening so i had a shower and went to bed. Doesn't look like this rain is gonna let up anytime soon...

Day 76

Surfers Paradise is starting to grind on me. Its just boring. Whenever i go into town there are these 2 manky looking girls dressed in gold bikinis and cowboy hats handing out leaflets to a club. I think that sums up Surfers paradise. Cheap and nasty. I think that was there names actually.

Bought a new book. Its actually really good. Spent most of my day reading it. Didn't bother cooking for myself. Not after last nights fuck up. Decided to buy a kebab. It was shit in comparison to the one in Hammersmith. Still practically inhaled it as i was hungry. All my roommates left so had the entire room to myself. Not like it makes much difference. Leaving tomorrow in the morning to Hervey Bay. 7 hours by coach. I have a good book so i don't care...

Sunday, 15 January 2012

Day 75

slept for what felt like ages. I love that feeling. When you think its really late but its actually only 9:00am. 2 Asian roommates spent about 2 hours in the shower. Not together but between them. Left the shower soaking wet and covered in hair. Great. We have an en suite. Its tiny, looks like it used to be a closet. I could actually have a shower whilst sitting on the toilet. Showers powerful. Every shower has been powerful. Even in the shittiest hostels. You'd think a country not far from the equator and filled with nothing but dry desert and red rock would have a bad water supply. That might be the case inland but on the coast the showers are powerful. Sometimes too powerful. The one in Sydney felt like i was in prison getting hosed down in my cell. I think that was in the Green Mile, I'm not too sure.

Walked around town again. They had a volleyball tournament on the beach. Looked pretty boring but the locals were into it. Started raining. Id been ahead of this storm since Sydney but looks like it has finally caught up with me. Don't bother me. I like a good tropical storm.

Cooked a curry for my dinner. The curry bit was a breeze. The rice however, not so much. The funny thing is i could hear my Mum telling me how to make rice. She told me once and i can remember the conversation but all the important information was gone. "the one thing you must do when making rice is........" "You should not......" "There. Not to difficult, is it?" My memory is useless at times. Anyway i over cooked it by about 10 minutes. It was more rice pudding. Still tasted alright. Also it double in size. I had way too much rice. I think my mum told me that would happen as well. Ah well, live and learn, and make notes when your mum tells you something...

Day 74

Woke up and packed. Left without saying goodbye to my roommates. Didn't like any of them anyway. Don't think waking them up to say "go fuck yourself" would have been very polite. Had 3 hours from checkout till my bus arrived so thought i kill it in the Internet cafe. Very rarely do i get Internet at the same time my friends are online. Luckily i got to talk to Athena and Alice. Got to hear about how hard uni is and how much work they have to do. Always cheers me up. Miss them a lot. Also nice to hear Athena is no longer vegetarian. Will have to bring back some Kangaroo fillets and crocodile steaks.

Caught my coach to Surfers Paradise. Only took 30 minutes. Arrived and realised Ive been here before when my dad was over. We had stopped off  on our way to Noosa. It is a really shitty area. Just ugly skyscrapers and an overpowering smell of urine. Its too commercialized. It has no character. Although i might just be comparing it to Byron Bay. I have missed fast food chains and name brand shops. Headed straight to Hungry Jacks after i dropped my bags at the hostel. None of my new roommates were in so no need to stick around. Walked around town. The main shopping area has every shop you can think of. Everything but a good bookshop (although none of the locals look like they read) i really wanted a new book. Walked past about 15 nightclubs in 15 minutes. Cant wait not to go to any of them. Not gonna bother pretending anymore. I hate nightclubs. One club had a sign outside saying "any person with visible tattoos not covered up will not gain entry" or something like that. I think that pretty ridiculous. Id understand offensives tattoos. Like a Nazi flag on the forehead, or a bunch of white people beating up a black kid on your arm. Just seems a bit strange. You can hardly see anything in a night club anyway.

Headed back to my Hostel. I have 2 Asian girls in my room and one Italian guy. The Italian guy is alright. The problem with Asian tourists is they stick together. Not a bad thing for them but they don't socialise with anyone else. Its a bit annoying. Most travellers want to meet new people. Even i want to meet new people sometimes, and I'm very anti social. Anyway I've got 3 days here so better make the most of it. Don't even know what my next stop is...

Friday, 13 January 2012

Day 73

slept for way too long. Was ridiculously tired for some reason. Went into town again. Went to the beach and read my book. Attempted to cycle to the lighthouse but the combination of the sun on my back and the fact i had to cycle up hill made me give up halfway up. Was fun going down tho. Just glided down the hill, didnt even have to peddle.

Went to subway. Helped a women who had to clean up the floor. Only move the chair for her but the gesture seemed to make her day and she gave me a free cookie which made my day. Gotta love Karma.

Back to the beach. Watched a hippie carving spirals and shapes in the sand with a long rake. Went back to my hostel i played cards with my roommates, then went to bed. Leaving tomorrow for Surfers Paradise...

Thursday, 12 January 2012

Day 72

Walked around town again. Its such a laid back place. They have no fast food chains and no name brand shops. Surfers everywhere. The women are gorgeous. They have loads of hippies. 1 in 5 people have dreadlocks. It looks like the whole town was taken straight out of a Hollister catalogue. Its very vintage as well.  You see old motorbikes, hippie waggons, beetles and you rarely see a bike with gears. Such a cool place. Could actually live here.

Don't like my roommates. They seem nice enough but they are all idiots. Can be bothered to talk to them. I'm only here for one more day so I'm not too bothered about socialising with them. Walked down to the beach today and just sunbathed and watched people surfing. I'm not such a fan of surfing since my failed endeavour yesterday. I like the look of paddle boarding more. Its like a big surfboard which you stand on and then you use a paddle to move around. I have a voucher to try it somewhere up the coast.

Watched the sunset over the ocean. A group of hippies started playing bongos in the parking lot behind me. It was a very chilled atmosphere. Really gonna miss this place. If i can i will stop off for longer on the way back down, if i come this way back...

Wednesday, 11 January 2012

Day 71

woke up at 5:00am. Left for my coach. Had to walk to the other side of Coffs Harbour. Not a good experience. They played John Q on the coach. Its actually a really good movie. What i saw of it anyway. Every bump in the road would make the picture cut out momentarily.

Arrived at Byron Bay at 11:00am. It is amazing. Love the town. Its like a surfing town. Really laid back until the evening. Hostel is good as well. I have an apartment with its on bathroom and kitchen. Have to share it with 7 other people but its no problem.

Met up with the Canadians from Sydney. Wade and Josh. Went surfing for the first time. I say surfing. It was more like... i don't even know what it was like but it wasn't surfing. The rented board we got had no stabiliser on the bottom so kept rolling over to one side. I tried standing a few times. Closest i got was kneeling, but then i rolled off. Gave up on surfing and used it as a boogie board until i fell of due to an over sized wave and got churned around under the surf for what felt like a minutes. Probably wasn't more than a few seconds. Still scary as hell. Luckily we weren't in water deeper than we could stand. Left the surf board on the beach and went swimming instead. Its more fun just trying to jump over the big waves. Executed an incredible swan dive which put my back out. The Canadians said that there were 2 girls checking us out from the beach. I said they probably thought we were drowning.

Went out to some night clubs. I am still not a fan of them. Don't understand it. Floors sticky the bathrooms are disgusting, Drinks are overpriced and the bouncers are all arseholes. I cant wait till I'm old enough to just go to a bar or pub without feeling like an outcast...

Tuesday, 10 January 2012

Day 70

Day was shit. Nothing to do in Coffs Harbour. The canoeing voucher was only for 2 people. Catch 22 or what? Didn't do that in the end. Just lay by the pool. Nice and relaxing. Have to wake up early to catch my coach. 5:00am!!! Well I will be happy to leave Coffs Harbour. Next stop Byron Bay :)

Monday, 9 January 2012

Day 69

Woke up late. Someone turned off all the fans in the room so i was baking. Walked into town. Its only a 20 minute walk the receptionist told me. 20 minutes my arse. It was long. At least 30 minutes but felt longer. The sun was sitting on my shoulders the whole way. Reached the "town". I wouldn't really call a large grocery shop surrounded by nothing a town centre. Bought some groceries, as there was nothing else to buy, and started my long journey back, disappointed and let down by Coffs harbour. I have canoeing planned for tomorrow so that should be better. Back at the hostel i chilled by the pool. I don't know when families started taking there kids to YOUTH hostels, but it really pisses me off. Just kids screaming and running around the pool. I don't need that form a hostel I'm paying $30 a night for. I'm out of here in 2 days but still. Once the kids fucked off i read my book and soaked up what little sun was left. Then i chilled in the film room with my laptop. Bought some wi-fi so i can check my emails and browse the web. Started raining outside. Haven't seen rain in a while. I just hope it doesn't rain tomorrow...

Sunday, 8 January 2012

Day 68

Left Port Macquarie early. On to Coffs Harbour. Coach didn't take too long. About 4 hours. The harbour is good. Arrived around 5:00pm so just walked to the beach. Went to the local super market and bought some basics. Made food. I have a really creepy roommate. He has a camouflage sheet hung up over his bed so no one can see him. He just comes out every now and then for supplies. Hes like a gremlin. I also don't know anyone who has a camouflage sheet. Its just a bit creepy. Had a shower. Luckily no moths. Went to bed. Lack of sleep caught up with me. Will check out the town tomorrow...

Saturday, 7 January 2012

Moths

I feel the need to vent my hatred of moths. I've always been afraid of them. They are so completely useless. Most insects i dislike. I used to be afraid of spiders but now i don't mind them. I wouldn't let a spider walk on me or keep one as a pet, but i can tolerate them. At least they have a personality or can be interesting. Moths however just sit around on walls and every now and then fly erratically into an inanimate object or, more often than not, my face causing me to flail about like a fish on land "I got them moves like Jagger"

I started to overcome my fear of them. But that was back in the UK where the moths are small and you can swat them with a box of tissues. Anyway, i saw what was probably the biggest moth i have ever seen. It was the size of a hamster. Don't think im exaggerating either. It was huge. You would have need more than a box of tissues to kill it. Maybe a baseball bat or a glock. It was just my luck that i spotted this behemoth (buh dum dum) (actually im surprised i can make a pun right now im that traumatised) whilst in the shower. The bathrooms have no door. They are like an outhouse really. It was just sitting on the light, watching me. Each time i had to take my eye of it i would be afraid it would move and each time i thought it had- Was his leg like that before? I also had to walk past it on my way out of the cubicle. I was waiting for the erratic behaviour. They are kind of like a crazy person on a bus, you never know what they are going to do and you dont want to move away or say anything in case it starts a savage attack and you have to shield yourself with your oyster card. I used my towel to create a barrier between me and the moth, and once i was clear i legged it leaving the other guys in the bathroom puzzled. I should have warned them that there life was in danger but it was already too late for them. For the next few weeks im going to be so paranoid about leaving windows or doors open...

Day 67 - Port Macquarie

Visited the Koala Hospital. It seemed a lot closer on the map, and on the map it didn't have a picture of the sun burning down the city. The height of summer in Australia is no joke. It goes: Warm, Hot, Very Hot, Old people will combust. Australia is the last one. About a 45 minute walk to the hospital. Also the lack of pavements are annoying. You know your walking too far when the area your walking through has decided it doesn't need side walks because no body would be stupid enough to walk through it. After hugging the side of the road for about a mile i found the hospital. It was small to say the least. The koalas were cute but they were asleep and boring. They all had a "tragic story" on how they got there. One was in a bush fire. Awww. I didn't really care i just wanted to pet one.

They were having a sangria night in the hostel. I can say no (and more often or not i do) to social situations, but i can never say no to sangria. Especially when they have 2 tubs full, about 90 litres. Apparently i have aggressive body language. I've heard this a few times from different people. I've never been aggressive, I do swear a lot but im from the UK. Also i have the body of an 11 year old. I don't know how i can come across as intimidating.

We went out to a club in town. One guy in the group was so wasted. No one wanted to take care of him and i said id take him back to the hostel. Met some of his friends and i left him with them. He ended up in hospital. Went to the club which was decent. Some guy i was with was a right twat. He couldn't pull these girls we were out with so he decided to insult them all night. He then told me his pick up lines- 'you just go up to them and say "want to fuck?" i suppose you have to appreciate the simplicity. Ironically he got off with the best looking girl in the club. Makes me wonder if i acted like a complete cunt i might get more women. Although i wouldn't be too sure about the quality of women id be getting...

Day 66 - Port Macquarie

After waking up in the TV room, which had been surprisingly comfortable, i found that the hostel was very nice. Free snooker and air hockey table, free breakfast if i had got up on time, a swimming pool. It actually looked like a hotel. Well actually a 3 star hotel. My room was decent. I look for good pillows more than anything.

I picked up a map and walked around town. Its nice i guess. Quite. Not much to do. They have boat tours but the water looks boring from the shore, don't need to see it up close, and especially not for $30. They have a flying tour. Same problem really. Not staying long. Off to Coffs Harbour in 2 days. Walked around the coast line. A few beaches. Went looking for the towns main attraction, other than the port (which was shit), a koala hospital. Its a hospital just for Koala's which i think would be amazing. If you get there at they right time you can watch them get fed. Its free too.

Didn't make it to the place. Was too hungry and went looking for food instead. Only place i could find was some run down old cafe. $10 for fish and chips which were disgusting. I was hungry so i ate the lot. Headed back to the hostel, but not before i bought some bananas. I'm living on them at the moment. They are cheap and healthy and you can keep them in your bag. Crashed on my bed when i got back. The lack of sleep finally took effect on me...

Day 65

My day was rather eventful actually. I had planned to have a relaxing day in Sydney before I caught the coach to Port Macquarie. Checked out of my room at 10:00 and left my stuff in a locker so I could walk around Sydney. Hooked up free wi-fi in Hungry Jacks. Checked emails, facebook etc. Read my book in the park when i felt something drop on the back of my neck. Swiped it and found it was a spider. I later realised that this spider was a White tailed spider. One of the most deadly spiders in Australia. That could have been ugly. They wont kill you but they make you break out in ulcers all over your body and then that can lead to death. Wont be sitting under any trees for a while.

They have a Large chess board for the public set up in the park. Normally the games are pretty boring but there was a really comical over confident Chinese man playing. He kept insulting the other guy "oh you learn something big boy?" "chess vewy simple" "ha ha game over for you" "mama mia" he pulled a huge crowd and everyone cheered whenever someone took his piece. Was very funny. It was even funnier when he lost for the first time and actually ran out of the park.

Also saw a crazy women screaming about the end of the world as she power walked through the park, red faced and with a lovely stream of snot flapping around in the wind. Her face was bright red. I think she has a better chance of bursting a blood vessel before she gets to see "the end of the world".

Got the coach in the evening. Took 5 hours to get to my hostel. I say my hostel. Turns out the reception was close when I arrived and my room was obviously not ready. Was actually my fault. I didn't book the night I was arriving I booked for the day I was arriving. Had to wait until morning when reception opened so I could check in. Attempted to sleep in one of the hammocks outside but didn't succeed. Felt like I was in a cocoon. Also was being attacked my mosquito's all the time. Luckily i wasn't the only one who made the same mistake. 2 other girls had done the same thing so we just sat up and talked. The reception opened at 5am as a load of people was going surfing. They couldn't give us a room but they opened the film room and let us sleep on the coaches. It had been a long night and I just passed out...

Day 64

Everyone left in the morning. Bummer. Headed to the house i had been staying at to pick up my travel documents and stuff. Leaving for Port Macquarie tomorrow evening. Need to make sure my ipod is charged and that i have everything i need before i leave. Once i start i wont be able to stop until i reach the top of the east coast, Cairns. Want to find work fruit picking and apparently north is the place to be...

Day 63

pretty sure i was still drunk in the morning. Oh well I'm fine now. Had a walk to clear my head. Its really hot in Sydney at the moment. Not planning on sticking around for much longer. Everyone in my room is leaving tomorrow. We had 2 Canadians sleeping on our floor for the past few days. They cant afford a room. They are leaving tonight in a car they bought and are leaving for the coast. They invited me to come but id rather make my own way up. Asian guy in our room taught me how to make a bracelet. Unfortunately i didn't know i would be unable to take it off until he sealed it to my wrist with wax. It looks pretty good. Last months apparently. Might cut it off sooner...

Day 62

Decided to play beer pong with a twist. We had no beer so we used Goon. About 5 of us playing, me, 4 people from the UK and 2 Canadians. We all got pretty drunk. We then left for karaoke. The bar was packed. We sung a tribute to Mumford and sons. Great Laugh. Loads of fun.

Now understand why your not allowed to wear flip-flops to nightclubs. Someone broke a glass and a shard of it went into my toe. Starting bleeding all over the floor. Didn't hurt. Probably the alcohol numbing the pain. In the morning my foot was fine. Only a little cut and it doesn't hurt to stand on. Could have been worse. In the future i will wear shoes to bars...

Day 61- New Years Day

Went for a walk in the morning. Went to the shops. Saw a few people still drunk from last night staggering around the streets. Most of the shops were closed as well. Had to buy a new adaptor because my one is shit. Keeps buzzing and disconnecting itself. When i got back to the hostel i played cards for a bit, had a shower, bought some Internet and checked my email and updated my blog, played some more cards and then went to bed. Pretty dull day but i was still tired from yesterday...
